Placing an International Award on Hold

Tried the search route without success...

I put an international award ticket on hold last night and aa.com said that the reservation is on hold for the next 14 days before I have to purchase it. I've used the hold feature numerous times on domestic non-award tickets and always had less then 48 hours to make the purchase. Is the 14 day hold unique to award tickets, international travel, or is aa.com screwed up?

TIA

All award travel has 14 day hold available.

and if the one exp agent I spoke with is correct, 14 days is all you can get. No more by booking over the phone and no extensions (unless award seats are still available then you can get another 14 days).

to clarify, 'tho, am I right in thinking the "reservation" is on hold, but the fare may not be?

Most likely, since it is award travel, the fare is not in $$ but in miles. The mileage redemption rates do not change frequently.

depending on your departure date. 14 days on hold is standard on international award if your travel date is not immediate or at least have weeks apart from reservation date.

On an award ticket hold, the number of miles required stays the same during the hold. If there is a change in the amount of the taxes, you will pay the amount that the taxes are when you purchase, not the amount they were when you put the ticket on hold (I think).

Good to see another non-problem being reported though.

Honestly, I didn't think it was a problem. I could not find anything on aa.com or FT outlining policies for holding an award travel reservation and thought it was unusual based on prior experience with non-award domestic holds. I guess I was just looking for affirmation...

Sadly it's become more of a source of entertainment rather than information, anymore.
