Hmmm.. Ominous Delay AA#8 HNL - DFW
So sitting here in the terminal waiting for my flight home to board, and just happen to be sitting next to a gaggle of flight crew. PA keeps announcing the flight is delayed.
One of the flight crew walks up to the others and says "Well the city is calling a HazMat crew to come check the airplane. It has a funny smell in it. Kind of like vomit, but its throughout the airplane"
Can you purchase nose plugs at the airport?

But wait, more info... "The ramp workers are complaining of nausea"
The flight crew is now discussing whether they can steal a plane from another flight.
Official announcement "They're still cleaning the plane"

Yikes - sounds awful. Well, on the bright side, maybe they will cancel it, and you will get another night in paradise.
I hate AA 8 - it is soooo depressing leaving the Islands.
Aloha, and bets wishes for a safe trip home.

Well as I look out the window at the pretty Fire Engines with their lights on, the PA announces that "The plane is too hot to board, so we're calling for a special air conditioning truck to come cool it down before we began boarding."
Gee wish they would cool the planes off like that out of Dallas and Austin more often..

My wife is getting suspicious that I'd rather post on Flyertalk then talk to her. Is that a problem?

Keep it up and pretty soon you won't have a wife. Then you can spend all your free time on FT. Problem satisfactorily solved!

Whoo Hoo.... Going to actually board now. Although they are warning that "it's still quite warm, but the Captain wants to get going and he'll cool it off once he's in the air."
I'm betting on a 545 departure, if they push it.

Oh, how I hate leaving the islands. We have the same routine everytime we are leaving. We get there a couple of hours early and we go to that restaurant closest to the air strip and watch the planes come in and go out. Somehow on all of our thirteen trips we have always sat at the same table. My husband has a couple of beers and I sit there with tears in my eyes.

As we were taking off, the Captain relayed the actual problem.
The APU apparently sprung some kind of oil leak, which infiltrated the air conditioner. This caused a fine haze of oil mist to enter the aircraft. Maintenance finally figured it out, and shut down the APU. Then they just had to figure out how to vent the aircraft out and recool it.
------
So we finally got off, and made up some time on the way to DFW. But to add insult to injury, we had to wait 10 minutes for the jetbridge, and then 6 of us missed our connection to Austin because they pushed our Austin flight out of the gate 5 minutes early. Then there wasn't an AA person in view through half of C. So here we set at the Samsung booth by Starbucks waiting for the next flight in 3 hours.
<sigh> What a way to end a vacation
