Gold upgrade chances SJC-AUS

What experiences have GLD members had with upgrades on the SJC-AUS route (and return AUS-SJC)? If GLD upgrades are hard to come by on this route, I'll just use miles in advance. If the chances are decent however, I'd rather save the miles and take the chance.

Flight dates/times would be helpful...

Just taking a look at X availability in the next few days there is X inventory showing on 1810 and 1172 but not 502, but specific days would allow for more detailed help.

Overall, a somewhat tough route for a GLD, I think. A lot of EXP, PLT fly the Silicon Valley- Silicon Hills route. Doing that myself in a few weeks.

Cheers.

It would be SJC-AUS on a Tuesday on AA1172 (1136A) and AUS-SJC on a Thursday on AA1703 (530P).

Thanks.

You might want to support Expert Flyer by paying for it and look for X inventory. Though the odds seem low.

You didn't mention what date you're looking at. Anyway, this coming week you'd have a very good chance on the outbound, and very low chance on the return.

Ahhh, the Nerd Bird... my most frequently missed upgrade last year, even as an EXP. If you fly during "off" times, you should be fine, but it's a tough upgrade on Thursday evenings.

Flyer23 is correct. The AMD Express / Freescale Flyer gets pretty tight on the rush hour flights (Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday).

You do have a chance on a Tuesday, but a slim one. I have been on the AUS-SJC flight when the gate agent remarked that more than half the plane was taken up by Explat and Plat flyers. Next to AUS-DFW, it is a popular flight out of AUS for the big hAAts.

Thanks everyone for your advice.

This Tuesday AA1172 is showing X5 and this Thursday AA1703 is showing X0. Using those figures as a guide for future dates in May, I have decided to take my GLD upgrade chances with AA1172 on the Tuesday, but to confirm the upgrade on AA1703 on the Thursday using miles.

Using miles to upgrade this flight? I would suggest taking the exit row and saving the miles. FC on this route is marginally better than the exit row, unless you can drink a lot...
