Will AA match fares for EXP's ?
I've seen posted here that an unwritten benefit of EXP is that AA will match competetive fares.
Anyone have any recent experience of requesting such benefit? |

It's been posted. Vehemently disagreed with by many including you And guess which one of you it is? Jeez. Wish we could play like nice people here. To the OP - this has been the subject of a long debate here ( I lurked and read things long before posting) and the consensus seems to be that they don't really match and that there is no such feature. But it's hardly a stupid question given the fact that people have made that claim in many places on this site and elsewhere. Sorry your first response was so devoid of information. Here's more threads that might help you: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...exp+match+fare http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthrea...ght=fare+match |
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ to Flailey.
r3guru, it never hurts to call the EXP desk and ask if they will match the fare. Or you can try to e-mail AA and ask if they will match the fare. I would think that being an EXP might give you a better chance of them matching the fare. |
If Venus is in Retrograde and the moon is in the fourth house of Pluto you might have a snowball's chance in Riyadh of having them do a fare match.

JonNYC is right. What has been posted has been speculation about and interpretation of other procedures that has been confused with some mystical EXP benefit. It doesn't exist.
As has been indicated, TAs and corporate travel depts. can request fare match but what is rendered is a revenue decision, not an EXP decision. When requesting a fare match, a Frito-Lay GLD will trump a flailing-about PLT or self-important EXP every time. One of the few faults of this forum is when people, typically newer members, string together a set of facts to satisfy their own "false or unsupported" conclusion. If you don’t know, don’t pretend that you do. |
Jon, I didn't just dream it up, it is mentioned here (as FLAILEY correctly states) , but yes the origin of this myth is fewmiles' website and not FT.
Here's my view.. As an EXP you do have a line to revenue management to ask the question. So does your TA. Whether you get the decision you want depends on whether you are Frito Lay, what fare basis you’re eying and how many pax you’re booking, and probably other things too. What I really asked for, and haven’t seen yet is for ACTUAL experience. Which I'm sure we all agree would be of benefit to ALL on this board. |

I have actual experience. Perhaps it's something done as a courtesy for high revenue pax.
I've tried three times to get this done. Once via AMEX Centurion travel, once with an excellent TA out of LAX who works for the entertainment industry and once on my own. All three times, shot down. The TA was already cutting his commission for me so that avenue was out. That's about all the TA can do is give up the commission on the sale. We all know how much AA pays out in commissions so don't expect much. |
It doesn't happen. I think that's been very firmly established on previous threads on this exact subject.
