You would think someone who traveled so much would understand the metrix of valuing FF miles- unless you were willing to lay out your own $ to buy the full fare J ticket the MSRP is meaningless. AA miles are not worth the $0.07 this math implies.

Miles will come in over 4 to 8 weeks after your purchase

I thought Bluenile looked kind of pricey. Ice.com seemed to have better prices, but you may get what you pay for.

Makes sense - none of this (surprise) was hanging together too well.

Is there any other place to get good diamond jewelry and get miles as well?? I looked at Macys.com, too.

AFAIK, no where. Buying good diamond jewels and earning miles would be mutually exclusive. Although, you could earn some miles by using a Diners or other AAffinity card to pay for them. IMHO, buying jewelry is very personal and an easy transaction to get screwed on. It's the kind of thing you want to have some sort of relationship with the person which you are buying from.

I am pretty satisfied by what I got from BlueNile, though I have no idea of if I got ripped off or not. How does one know how much a piece of jewelry is worth? To me I figure the miles were worth like a 10-20% discount versus what I would buy from a jewelry store.

I have a question then, is the jeweler going to loan me the piece of jewelry before I buy it? I will take the bluenile piece to an independent jeweler to see if I got ripped off.

Like cme2c, I have not found bluenile to be a price performer but I recognize you may gauge value using different metrics.
