BREAKING NEWS
NBC News and news services
Updated: 2:46 p.m. ET Dec. 7, 2005
MIAMI - Shots were fired Wednesday on board an American Airlines jet that had landed at Miami International Airport, and at least one person was wounded, according to broadcast reports.

The plane had just arrived from Colombia and was headed to Orlando, the reports said.

The suspect, a passenger, claimed he had a bomb and started to get off the plane, and air marshals went after him, sources told NBC News.

The man then turned around, started after the air marshals and shots were fired.

Local affiliate WTVJ showed police SWAT teams surrounding the plane. The concourse at the airport was closed after the shooting.

Miami-Dade fire rescue officials confirmed the shooting.
