Miscellaneous Charges Order (MCO) Usage - Any info?

AMEX travel recently had to reissue a ticket of mine on AA as a better routing became available for a trip I am doing. The resulting fare was cheaper than what I had paid so the agent told me they would be mailing me an MCO or basically a credit on AA. She said that I had to use it via an AA ticket agent and cannot do it over the phone. I think I have had one of these in the past and had to schlep over to AA at Grand Central. Not ideal.

Can you use these travel credits for that $250 international upgrade fee (from discount Y to J) or only for new ticketing?

Or if anyone has any good uses for MCO besides a new ticket let me know.

IIR, an MCO (Miscellaneous Charges Order) is just like cash, you can apply it to any fee the airline charges. Of course, in the good old days, MCO's could be used for anything from Airfare to rental cars and hotels. Grayline Tours used to have the AA and Continental logos on their buses and would accept MCOs on either of them as tour payments.

Your best bet is to call AA and see what restrictions your MCO might have. They may even allow you to cash it in at any airport ticket counter, they certainly used to allow it.

I have used MCO's to pay change fees and a co-worker used one to pay for his Admiral's Club membership.
