Special Mileage Award - stopover allowed??

I am planning on trying to get an AA Special Mileage Award to Hawaii (20,000 points plus $350) and am wondering whether the following constitutes a stopover and whether it is allowed. I would like to do the following:

June 12: Fly to HNL
June 17: Fly to KOA
June 22: Fly home

Is this considered a flight to KOA with a stopover in HNL? If so, is it allowed on an award ticket? Or, do I need to just get the award ticket to HNL and then get interisland flights separately?

Thanks,
AGS
