What is an "Air Tray"? (Jim Wilson desk)
AA987 BOS-MIA today the ramp workers loaded a 6'x3'x2' white cardboard box with the AA logo on it that said "Jim Wilson Air Tray" on all sides in print (as opposed to handwriting). Now I'm pretty sure I know what was inside, but is that the entire title of the thing, or is that the name of the unfortunate cargo hold passenger? Seems like an expense to actually have the name machine-printed onto the box...

It really doesn't cost that much to print a name on a box.
Here is a picture of this "item" from a casket catalog.

Jim Wilson is the moniker AA uses for those less than fortunate souls that are transported in the cargo hold.

"Air Tays" For Shipping Casketed Human Remains
I want to respond to your posting about the Jim Wilson air tray. Jim Wilson is a Manufacturer of Air Trays. An Air Tray is a box that is used to ship Casketed Human Remains on an Airplane. My sister owns C & L Containers, also a manufacturer of Air Trays and other containers used by the funeral industry. I hope this clarifies this for you.

No idea where the "Jim Wilson" tag comes from, but I di find this article while searching.
Citations: 1988 Jonathan Dahl Wall Street Journal (Mar. 22) “Tracking Travel”: About 50,000 bodies were air-shipped last year.…American, meanwhile, has developed a code name for its program: Jim Wilson. Funeral directors calling the airline in the presence of the deceased’s family can simply ask for the name. “It makes things easier for them,” says the spokesman
A “Jim Wilson,” for example, is airline industry argot for a cadaver being shipped in cargo; undertakers routinely ask for “Jim Wilson” fares. So when a computer executive’s wife inquired about her husband at the airport recently—"Is there a Jim Wilson on this flight?”—the attendant promised to phone the baggage department and locate the casket. “Needless to say, my wife was taken aback,” my friend Mr. Wilson reports.

Thinking way back to when I went to ramp training, I remember covering this subject, and I seem to recall the name being something to do with the person who makes/designs the box. A quick google revealed something along those lines with Jim Wilson being the patent holder on the design .

Terrorist watch list?
According to Tuesday's Wall Street Journal, James Wilson is on the DHS terrorist watch list.
I wonder if this causes any trouble for AA?
I guess old Jim's got nothing to lose...
