So we opened up a terminal D at DFW. Anybody notice?

I watched the local news special on the new terminal D opening. Wife Tivo'd it. I had extra time tonight before my flight out.

The local station that did the piece did a nice job; I did not see any obvious construction still in process; but oh man is there. I concede it is open. There are airlines using it; but the much vaunted amenities; are just not there yet. The only eatery I saw open was Fudruckers. Bennigans is still maybe 2 weeks away, the winery that is there is looking ready, but man oh man, nobody. Reminds me of the Stephen King short- Tommy Knockers I think. Construction workers far out number any pax that are there. Subtract the pax that are sightseeing...

On the upside there are a herd/gaggle/school/pod/gang/posse of TSA hanging out, at a well underutilized security checkpoint. So, on monday mornings, ALL DFW flyers, listen up- Go to D. Avoid the lines. Avoid the traffic. Ride the skylink. Very nice until someone actually soaks up some gates at DFW D.

So is American going to be using Terminal D? And if so, does anyone know what/when flights will start moving there? I'm back and forth from Boston and the lack of anything decent to eat in Term C is driving me up a wall.

With the new Hyatt and it's connection to the Skylink is there a TSA checkpoint between the hotel and boarding the train as well?

Something I can't figure out.....

The news coverage said that parking at D and using Skylink to get to other terminals was a good idea. But how to get to Skylink if you haven't checked in as yet? Also do you have to go through security to get into the hotel just to have a meal?

The Hyatt is between the two ticketing centers. It is outside security so you can go in without clearing security. To get to Skylink from the GH, though, you have to go through security.

You don't get to skylink without checking in but of course you can go through D security as long as you have a BP even if your flight is not out of that terminal. So just print from home and head to D to check-in since AA is still "a few weeks away."

The program's point was that they predicted that people would really fall in love with the "smart parking" of D and its 8100 parking spaces, check in with AA there and then Skylink to their actual terminal. All D parking is $16.

I had thought there would be AA check in positions at D; but it is not the case. I had checked in on line, and it is the only way now.

They really screwed this up. All the talk all along was that it would be fully operational/utilized from day one. I was so looking forward to seeing it. Obviously, the AA flights I fly will eventually make it over there. But I'm so bumed by next trip won't be from there. Heck, my last trip was supposed to be based on the originally announced open date.

Well, the 'spirit' of 'fully operational from Day 1' I think is still in effect. They were just saying that even though D is an international terminal, from 'Day 1', it will be full, meaning, even if that means a lot of the flights aren't international ops.

what? it's not full, period. With AA due to use most of its gates, how could it be?
