Qualifying for Elite Status

AAdvantage previously allowed Canadian members to obtain Elite status in accordance with Aeroplan levels (18,000-Gold, 35,000-Platinum) but have since gone with US Standard. Living in Toronto, there are only 6 destinations (three are 1 hour connector flights) to go American from YYZ. It is very difficult to accumulate miles necessary (without numerous connections) to obtain or keep status at current levels. I have taken a four hour flight via Chicago to Raleigh to get 1000 pts. in lieu of a one hour Air Canada flight. I hope they will re-visit this one.

You have my sympathy, but the objective fact is that some airlines serve some destinations better than others. Much as I like AA, if I lived in a city it doesn't serve well, I'd think about switching. Loyalty, when it comes to business relationships, has its limits.
