San Juan airport hotel?

I'm flying back to Boston AA and have an overnight in San Juan.

Is there a hotel at the airport - couldn't find one via expedia, etc?

(Wasn't sure of the most appropriate place to post - didn't there use to be an airports thread? - but I'm flying AA and it's an AA hub, so maybe others here can help out).

thanks

depends how long your overnight is. I was just in SJU and found that the distance from the airport to the hotels in tourist areas (like isla verde or condado) is pretty short. I had a car, but really, it was soemthing like a 5 minute drive from isla verde and a 10 minute from condado (except in rush hour). I don't think there is a hotel at the airport itself.

The Ritz is probably the closest hotel, and will send a limo (you'll have to pay for it, though) if you decide the taxi line is too long.

For proximity to the airport, Isla Verde is the part of town you want to be in.

there is an embassy suites just off the end of the runway that is pretty nice, and very easy to get to from the airport, maybe 5 minutes. Also a Hampton Inn & Suites just down the road from the ES. both are somewhat expensive, but sometimes you can get the ES for less than the Hampton.

Despite reports from others that there is no airport hotel at SJU there is the International Airport Hotel. It is quite basic but it does exist (or at least did exist if someone knows something I don't) . I wouldn't necessarily stay there unless you have a late arrival or very early connection. I have stayed the SJU airport hotel. I'll never make that mistake again. Avoid it at all costs. The best word I can think of to describe it is "scary".

If you want to stay nearby the airport, you should check the isla verde area. If you need transportation, use the Tourist taxi, this offer you a flat fee instead of a meter fare. I guess the flat fee to isla verde is no more than 9.00 dollars. Also, check the condado area since they offer good rates. I stayed at tu casa b & b for 80 bucks....and is by the beach and is not very far from the airport. By the way, the airport hotel is closed since they are remodeling the hotel....thanks good!!!!

The International Airport Hotel was closed for renovation in Feb when I passed by...and it looked very closed indeed.

Hampton Inn is fine (though expensive) and they do look after HH Gold very nicely. Taxi ride is a rip off though, USD10 and no shuttles allowed.

I just returned from SJU on Monday and the "New" International Airport Hotel is still very much under construction.

Question Anyone Priceline a hotel recently?

I have 3 nights to spend in SJU next month.
Looking for a good 2 star place.

I'm looking for somewhere convenient to strolling around interesting areas, and finding sidewalk cafes to sip cool drinks.

Not too keen on basting in the sun, so doesn't have to be too near the beach.

Never been to San Juan before. Any suggestions besides the ones already posted? And, areas to avoid?

thanks!

I'm wondering if you might get a better response in the Travel & Dining: Caribbean Forum? Limiting your post to AA flyers will dramatically reduce the number of people who see your request.

Thanks for the referral! I just posted a message on the T&D:Carribbean forum, but I notice that it doesn't see very much traffic.

This hotel is good.....you should call them and make a reservation. The price goes from 99.00 but if you go to ebay, there is another hotel in the old San Juan area that goes from 75 dollars a night....both are very good.

Good luck....

The new Courtyard is next door to the Ritz on the beach and half the price. They have a Casino in the lobby. Take a Taxi to the Wyndham, just past the Ritz and the Hampton, bar for a drink in their lobby bar. It is one of the best on the whole island. The Embassy Suites is really over priced and not on the beach, neither is the Hampton.
