AA Schedule Change Ruins CX Award Itin

It appears that my return leg of my Bali- HK honeymoon has encountered a little snag. I was orginally due to fly from HKG on CX 882 arrriving LAX on 30 May at 2:30PM. My ORD connection (AA1002) was due to depart at 5:20PM has now been cancelled. I would assume this is due to the holiday weekend. So AA called me and advised me of our options. The could not book us on the 4:05PM departure out of LAX, as it is an illiegal connection but they could;

1. give us seats on the 11:15PM deaprture, creating a 9 hour layover.
-or-
2. We can overnight in LA (on our dime of course.)

After some proding, I was able to get the agent to send a message to CX to make two awards seat available on CX872 to SFO, which would allow me to conect to ORD and arrive almost as originally planned. I was warned that I did not have a good chance of getting this since AA made the schedule change and not CX.

My question is, options 1 & 2 are not at all attractive, what other options do I have at my disposal?

Ask AA to pay for your overnight in LA. The schedule change is not your fault and you shouldn't be responsible for any out-of-pocket costs.

If it were me, I'd go for option 2. This is your honeymoon you're talking about. A 9 hour layover sounds like no fun at all. If you can convince AA to buy you a night in a hotel, will that be the level of place you would want to stay at, coming home from a Bali honeymoon? And, unless they can confirm you through SFO sooner rather than later, leading up to your wedding day I'd think you have plenty of other things to fret over. So, yeah, it's completely not right but if it were me I'd just plan on spending a night in LA and book someplace that I could be comfortable at. That's just me.

You should be able to find something to do overnight in Los Angeles as you wrap up your honeymoon. Congratulations!
