Upgrade / standby question on LAX-JFK

Hi all,

Quick situation for you, need some expert advice...

Relevant info: I am exec plat. I booked my ticket 4 months ago.

Booked on 430p LAX-JFK tomorrow (Friday). Biz appears full.
The 300p flight appears to have empty biz seats.

If I go standby in econ (probably can get confirmed at airport I think), where will I show up on the upgrade list (once seat is confirmed)? Who would be ahead of me?

Thanks.

You need to be confirmed on the flight to be on the upgrade list. *Usually* they clear the upgrade list prior to the standby list (YMMV). I don't travel LAX-JFK, but I sincerely doubt that you will be upgraded if you only standby for the flight (versus same day flight change).

Ah, ok.

So I should do same-day change?

Would you advise checking in to my flight 24 hours in advance, or not check-in?

No impact checking in early, all based on origination of the PNR.

Definitely try for a SDC.

I would check in as early as possible since this affects your priority on the standby list. This does not affect your ability to do a SDC. Even if you can't do a SDC online, I would check with the agent at the airport. Also, you can request that the agent put you on the standby list only for a biz seat. This means you only clear if there is a biz seat available and you keep your (presumably) good economy seat otherwise.

Understood. Does checking in today impact same day standby ability tomorrow?
