Fare Matching
A friend told me his corporate travel agency could often get AA to fare match another airline if the other airline's fare on a similar itinerary was lower than that available on AA. Can anyone provide information as to whether this is possible other than through this agency?

It is almost assuredly a part of their corporate contract with AA.
There is a published guarantee to match lower AA fares found outside AA.com
