Boarding Times

Mods, feel free to move this if there is a mega-thread on it somewhere. I was unable to find such a thread.

Does anyone know what the standard boarding time for a 777 on a domestic flight is? My BP is showing 30 minutes prior to departure which I know cannot be accurate. 767s usually show 30 minutes also and often when I get there 30 before departure I'm last to board.

wide bodies board 40 or 45 minutes prior to departure.

Not quite that simple, see lower half of this page, depends on some things:

Further complicated by the fact that not all systems/displays/BPs/App will show the times reflected in the chart above and will disagree with each other in some cases. So, at best, the times shown in the link above are a guideline/goal only.

Yeah, I always plan to arrive T-60 for wide bodies.

Thank you all for the info and experiences. I'll make sure I get to the gate at least 45-60 before departure.

On the link which JonNYC provided, I agree with the domestic 30 minute aircraft, but my experience for the 35 minute aircraft is pretty different. All the 757s and A321S that I've been on have boarded at T-30. On the other hand, 767s I've seen boarding much more than 45 before departure.

I haven't flown a 777 on a non-premium domestic flight in a long time, so I don't have any recent experience. I'll report back about my flight tomorrow.

But those you're referring to are 767s flying domestically?

My recent domestic 767 boarding experiences were ~40 minutes, but at least one was delayed for boarding by a maintenance issue.

That's right. MIA-MCO one time I arrived at the gate at T-30 and no one was there, I was curious as to whether the gate was changed or not and I found that they had already boarded the aircraft and I was the last one! Imagine my surprise. :D

Its very much an AA GA to GA thing. A few months back I arrived at a MIA gate to board a 738 at T-45 and as I walked up the GA announced F boarding. In general, its 40-45 minutes for a wide body, 35 to 40 minutes for a 757 or 321S and 30 to 35 minutes for a 738/MD80 or 319. I find US to be more consistent for boarding, 35 minutes for a 321 and 30 minutes for a 319 or 320. US wide bodies I have no experience.

I find everything is 40 mins now unless the inbound is late

A321T can start boarding anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes before scheduled time. It's a pain. They board really quickly, which is great, but if the agent decides to board early, then everyone just sits on the plane for an extra half hour. The saving grace is that there's so much overhead bin space that it doesn't really matter when you board for that purpose.
