AA has a great pdf timetable that helps answer questions like these:

Looks like AA has switched 2 of the 3 flights from JFK-LHR to 772s. So only one 77W.

Appears to have the new seat on the 772. 1-2-1.

You sure about that? It looks like all 3 are still the 77W per this pdf:

The Cargo website is often useful. They use 772 or 773; all JFK-LHR seem to currently reflect 773. One might begin a booking process on aa.com to be relatively sure?

They also provide a quarterly wide bodies flight (csv or PDF): https://www.aacargo.com/ship/schedules.html

AA switches from 3X 77W to 1X 77w / 2X 77D on December 17. This is the same day LAX-SYD launches uses the 77W (I am guessing these two facts are not coincidence)

I'm guessing you're spot on. Inaugural flights:

17 Dec 2015 AA 73 Flight duration 15:05
Lv LAX 21:50 Dec 17 PST / 05:50 18 Dec GMT
Ar SYD 07:55 Dec 19 EADT / 20:55 18 Dec GMT (same day)

19 Dec 2015 AA 72 Flight duration 13:50
Lv SYD 12:00 Dec 19 EADT / 01:00 19 Dec GMT
Ar LAX 06:50 Dec 19 PST / 14:50 19 Dec GMT

Requiring two aircraft for daily service, I think.

Not apparently running very full currently... though it is early.

Smile 4th LHR JFK flight returns

Maybe 17th December is the date when the 4th LHR JFK LHR flight returns.
Its meant to be 777 2 version with new Business Class seating and the return of the day flight out of JFK.
Should be on flight schedule very soon.

First AA 772 operated day flight JFK-LHR seems to start on 27 March 2016.

AA142 leaves JFK 1010 arriving in LHR at 2205.

The BA earlier flights allow some onward connections while this service will be much more limited in that respect.

Good news for those of us who cannot get to JFK early enough to connect to the BA dayflights. This offsets the loss of the PHL-LHR dayflight. But the price to be paid is 10-abreast even in MCE, unless one can get an upgrade.

Much more civilized departure time than BA.

They've also added a late departure out of Heathrow at 7pm, arriving JFK 9:55pm. That's a nice one too.

Seat maps are showing as 9-abreast in MCE (for now).

There are two different layouts for the 772 retrofits. I checked a random day (April 11, 2016) and the seat map on AA.com for 142 reflect the high-J 772 retrofit which feature 9-across MCE (still 10 across in Y- in the back). Seems to make sense as I expect JFK-LHR is one of the more premium heavy routes in AA's system. (104 and 106 on the same day feature the high J / 9 across MCE layout as well). I believe other threads said that 13 772s will be high-J retrofits and 34 772s will be low-J (10 across MCE) retrofits.

Yeah, I've read those threads but I think it's too soon to draw conclusions. My gut says the high-J and low-J 772 will converge on 10-abreast MCE. Time will tell.
