We tend to think of airline work as fairly safe, but then something like this happens. Weather can be a major factor - winter weather, lightning, etc. This incident gives us pause to reflect. Best wishes to family, friends and colleagues, and sorrow this happened to an AA mechanic of thirty years' service, Dave zoster, as he sought to close and secure the door of a 767 towed from the maintenance hangar to the gate at Terminal D. The jet bridge is 14 feet above the ramp.

American Airlines Mechanic Killed in Accident at DFW

Sad story:

"A mechanic who had worked for American Airlines for 30 years died Monday after falling from a jet bridge at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

NBC 5 has learned the mechanic was closing and locking the door on a Boeing 767 at about 10:30 a.m. when he somehow slipped and fell about 14 feet from the jet bridge to the ground below."

As this is already being discussed, I'll go ahead and merge this in.

In the construction business, anything above 16 feet will end up fatal 95% of the time. Fourteen feet is close to that. Thoughts and prayers for the family and co-workers who along with the victim have worked their butts off in an often thankless (and too often criticized) job in the winter time.
