No frozen mugs to go with a $7 beer? Anyway, I truly wonder how many people are going to pay $7 for a beer on a plane. There's always going to be someone, sure, and airplane pax are a captive audience, but I'm willing to bet that they'll sell fewer beers and make less money because they're pricing it out of many people's ballparks.

Sam Adams is also gonna be next on the chopping block, I'm afraid...

Isn't another one of those "upgrades" that came from the US side of the company?

Well before Jan 8. Checking my cc statement, I flew AA on 12/18/14 and my beer was priced at $7.

With the 25% discount from my Barclays US MC, total is $5.25. Compare that to my last pre-flight airport beer, a 20 ounce Sam that was over $10 after tax & tip. Which isn't to say that $7 isn't too much, but it'snot out of line with what the airport bars charge.

OTOH, if they get rid of Sam, I'll stop buying.

Still free in the Admiral's Club.

$450 AC membership pays for itself after 90 $5 beers...

I just have a double in the AC of whatever I'm drinking to compensate for the laziness of the lack of PDB's by FA's once onboard.

according to my math, 90 beers is about a day and a half of drinking.

Even when beer was $6 and liquor $7, the crappy AA beer selection made it an easy decision to go with the liquor.

Ummm... sorry, I disagree. I struggle to believe that a significant portion of folks that can afford $6 can't handle a $1 increase. If you are willing to pay $6 a beer you'll likely pay $7. Many folks pay that much for crappy beer at an Applebee's.

But hey, it wouldn't be an average day on FT if we didn't have something complain about...

Regards

By the same logic, most people buying a $300 plane ticket could handle a $10 increase in the price of a beer. Doesn't mean it's automatically a good idea, or that fewer beers won't be sold as a result.

Anyhow, it's basic economics, and presumably AA knows the demand curve better than any of us.

Hmmm, I thought their buying power would of increased as a result of the merger, and thus reducing their per item cost for catering, and off course passing is down to their customers What happened??

An incremental $1 to help medicate through the Y experience?

Sounds like a bargain to me.
