I believe you can use up to eight gift cards per booking.

Yes, it's right on the AA gift card website: https://giftcards.aa.com/using.jsp
And AA's main site: http://www.aa.com/i18n/productsGifts/giftCard.jsp
And the gift card FAQ: http://www.aa.com/i18n/utility/FAQs/...sp#Gift%20Card
On the payment screen, enter both the Card # and PIN # exactly as they appear on the back of the Gift Card. You may use up to eight gift cards at one time. If the total price of the ticket exceeds the value of your Gift Card(s), you may use a credit card for any remaining balance.
You can use up to eight (8) gift cards at one time toward the purchase of a ticket to hundreds of exciting destinations throughout the world.
Q: How many American Airlines Gift Cards can be used during one transaction or purchase?
A: Up to eight (8) Gift Cards can be used per transaction. Note: Gift Cards may not be used for paper tickets

What exactly are you trying to use? (AA doesn't really offer anything called a "gift certificate.")
Do you mean AA gift card, which is basically a physical or ecard that has a card number and PIN with a stored dollar value? If so, the answer is 8. See this recent thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...gift-card.html
Or do you mean travel vouchers, like the ones you get for being bumped off flights?

I used four vouchers on one reservation last year, but I had to call to ask if I could since I never found anything published about a limit. Unfortunately, all I asked was, "Can I use four?" instead of, "How many can you use?"
I also have two vouchers sitting in front of me and they don't mention anything about restrictions of use...
