Look at the 'exception' thread.

The main discusson have been in EQPs and EQMs. Segments has not been mentioned much. 2 segments short would be like asking a 99,000 mile/point question. Short.

Why did you stop at 98? And what happens if one or two of these flights cancel?

Done for the year. Summary:

Program to Date Miles: 590,345
YTD Elite Qualifying Points: 103,064
YTD Elite Qualifying Miles: 101,967
YTD Elite Qualifying Segments: 53

All zeros in 2 days and then the challenge begins again. Two trips already booked on AA and one on UA for January. May switch one to UA though to use up some expiring systemwide upgrades. Need my 15-18K per month for 2008 qualifications In the meantime I cant wait to get my first EXP packet!

Never considered I'd ever have that many segments in a year, plus last time I looked at the qualifications for EXP was way back when I made PLT and I didn't remember segments being a qualifier. I'm at 90k EQMs, 1.96 million lifetime.

I did get PLT one time when I was at 48k+ miles by calling, and I just called again, Carlos said he would put my request in but it would be 3 weeks before I would know the results.

I never knew that EXP was worth the effort until I came across this forum about a month ago, didn't know what I was missing.
I can make 98 segments by tonight by flying SAN-SJC and back with a 1 hour layover for under $300, I have the res on hold and will probably do it just to be sure.

Just found out about expertflyer.com from this forum, do you feel it's worth it?

It's hard to find good intel in the forum, I'd say about 1 post out of 30 to 40 has something I find useful, lots of fluff in between, like Washington DC...

Has anyone at AA told you they'll give you EXP status with less than 100 segments?

Wirelessly posted (HTC TyTN: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; PPC; 240x240) Opera 8.60 [en])

Yippeee! My first EXP packet came today. My qualifying miles posted on Dec. 15 so that is a pretty quick turnaround considering the holidays. Thanks again FT, both AA and BA boards especially.

You may want to think about doing it twice, either twice today if possible, or once tonight and once tomorrow, or nesting a trip somehow---to nail the 100 segs...or hoping there's some kinda' way to add a segment each way (not sure how). I just don't think AA would compromise on its EXP minimums, and would HATE to be so very close and miss it. To live in California, with SO many segment possibilities, and miss EXP by 2 segments would be harsh.

Nail the 100 segs---Go for it!!!!

Starting thinking about all the nice things that AA has done for me and realized I'd better get my a double s on the flight to SJC.
I'll be at 98 when I leave tomorrow for indy and hit 100 when I get there.
thanks for the input, now I need to go mow the yard before my 6pm flight.

Last minute qualification

Took a quick MIA-MCO-MIA trip to break the 100,000 qualifying points threshold. Beware that the minimum 500 miles per segment will not ordinarily earn you the 1.5 times the miles for A, F, P, D, I, J, B or Y booking class. I purchased P and was only credited with 500 miles/points towards qualification; however, I called AAdvantage and explained that I was told I would earn 750 qualifying points. After waiting for a ruling from a Supervisor, I was credited with the 250 points! Still don't know the precise math because it appears I earned more than I had thought. These figures do not include the return MCO-MIA:

Status: Executive Platinum
Program to Date MIles: 1,414,432
YTD Elite Qualifying Points: 100,936
YTD Elite Qualifying Miles: 81,582
YTD Qualifying Segments: 51

But whatever. Now I won't get "bumped" by an EXP that arrives for an upgrade 30 minutes before a flight after I've been on the list 2+ hours as a simple Platinum.

Finally, I was told that if you are close (couldn't get a definition on how close, close would be) to the 100,000 Qualifying Points threshold, AA has an appeal process that decides by February if you can qualify for EXP with less than the 100,000. Logic is that you have booked trips in higher fare classes to have more Qualifying Points than Qualifying Miles. Pretty reasonable even for AA!

I qualified on December 6th, I believe. Since I did not check my mail box for the past 2 weeks, I'm not sure when it arrived.
