American Airlines To Add Inflight Internet Access To Nearly 250 Regional Jets
http://hub.aa.com/en/nr/pressrelease...regional-jets-
Looks like this is finally going to happen after being originally announced for AA's E175 regional fleet and then swiftly abandoned. According to the press release, all jets with two-class service will receive Gogo by 2016. |
Two years? DL and U.S. have had wifi on their large RJs since the 2010-2011 time frame.

Nearly 250 of American’s regional aircraft will have inflight wireless Internet service installed by 2016. With this installation, the world’s largest airline will have the largest fleet of connected regional jets.
That's not true if they're done at 250 because DL has more RJs than that with wifi today. |

That's 49 months -- if they're on time, which past experience with any improvements (not "enhancements", which are rolled out in milliseconds) show they won't be.
BTW, RJs are more than half of their domestic flights, IIRC 53% of them. |

Well goodness it's about time. Disappointing that it has taken this long, especially for the E-175's as it was initially announced.

How do you figure 49 months? The press release says "by 2016" which would mean 13-24 months.

I'd agree.
In airline speak, "by [year]" historically has meant by the end of said [year]. Or later. :) |
How many actually need to get done? USex already has wi-fi on its E170/175 fleet. Just not on their CR7s and CR9s. AA is getting their new CR9s with wi-fi already installed. So it's basically the Eagle and USex CR7s, the Eagle E175s, as well as the USex CR9s.
