Most inexpensive ord-las ticket is ord-san-lax-las; likelihood of standby for nonstop
 

Hello,
I'm looking to travel ord-las in February. When I search by fare, the cheapest ticket by more than $100 has 2 stops (ord-san-lax-las(same on return)). I apologize if this topic has been discussed previously but in general, if the nonstop ord-las is not full, are my chances good (btw, I'm platinum) of being allowed to go nonstop?

Now I"m digressing a bit. For price comparison, I checked how much a Southwest nonstop ticket for the same dates and very similar times would cost and it was $235. A nonstop on AA with similar times runs $475 or so. The flight routing I listed above was like $325. Also, these AA flights are on 757 with LRTC. Wouldn't it behoove AA to compete with WN or do they not need to? I understand that wn is a lcc and eliminates frills but in this case since AA has LRTC, I would think the situations are similar in terms of quality. Thanks for reading.
