With the restoration of two LAX-LHR a flights daily and two other oneworld flights, we'll have more choices. The earlier AA flight also arrives in good time to use the LHR a Arrivals Lounge (which closes at 2:00 pm).

With four daily direct flights to London Heathrow – two operated by American with its flagship 777-300ER and two by American’s Atlantic joint business partner British Airways with its luxurious Airbus A380 – American’s customers will have the most travel options to London from Los Angeles throughout the year.

LAX-LHR (four times per day, year round, all times local)

Departs LAX Arrives LHR
British Airways 3:45 p.m. 10:00 a.m.
American Airlines 5:55 p.m. 12:25 p.m.
American Airlines 7:35 p.m. 2:15 p.m.
British Airways 9:45 p.m. 4:00 p.m.

The new 5:55 p.m. LAX to LHR nonstop begins on March 28, 2015, and customers may begin booking travel for on this flight on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014. All four flights feature a three-class configuration, with more than 60 fully lie-flat First and Business Class seats and products aimed to elevate the customer experience in every cabin. The 777-300ER features all-aisle access and a walk-up bar in the premium cabin, Main Cabin Extra seating provides more legroom and all seats feature personal, in-seat entertainment screens with up to 250 movies, over 180 TV programs and more than 350 audio selections, international Wi-Fi capability and universal AC power outlets and USB ports.

Yes, it was double daily at some point and LAX-JFK red-eyes were even thrice daily. This feels like a DL PR stunt announcing an old route they used to fly and are picking it back up.

Could come from anywhere. Keep in mind with the BA/IB/AA/US joint venture, they treat the whole pie as one, and then split the expenses and revenues. The slot could have come from anywhere inside the joint venture's portfolio.

This is why AA made such a big deal of the ATI/JV back 5 years ago.

Amazing news!

I wonder where the slot has come from? Also what does this mean for other 77W routes - is this being flown by new 77W arriving into the fleet, or will this result in shifts in 77W flights from other routes?

Certainly a huge amount of competition on LAX-LHR now. By next year I believe there will be up to 9 flights per day between LA and LHR. Certainly in Economy there are some very cheap fares on the route. Lower than JFK-LHR!

AA/BA 4x Daily
VS 2x daily
DL 1x daily
NZ 1x daily
Norwegian 3x weekly (LGW)

Ha, good question. The press release mysteriously only provides outbound times.

Where did the previous LHR slot pair go???

In other words, in case you missed it, AA has two daily LAX-LHR flights until sometime in 2008, so they obviously had that slot pair back then. Did they get the same slot pair back or a new slot pair?

Maybe they realized how many customers are upset wtih the UK departure tax and these planes will thus return from somewhere else?

Ah, good point, did not think about it in the context of the JBV.

Presumably they didn't let a valuable asset like that sit around unused for 6 years

First flight lands day after British Airways terminates Heathrow-Rotterdam. That might be where the slot comes from.

I wish the LAX departures were BA, AA, BA, AA, rather than the two AA flights nested in the middle.
