LAX-MIA: Only 1 Widebody per day?
Of the 8 daily flights, looks like there's only 1 flight (morning) with the widebody. Seems like it would make more sense to put it on the overnight flight to get some better seats than the standard first class seats. Does this happen often/at all? I can't seem to find any information about widebodies on this route. Thanks.

There are typically 3-5 daily widebody flights. If you are looking at the default schedule, currently showing past June, you will only see one loaded.

As American Airlines is still operating as a distinct entity, this question is being moved over to the pre-merger American Airlines forum.

There may be a 762 flying that route once or twice a day but not sure.

It is my understanding that the 772 used on this route is flown for aircraft repositioning purposes and has nothing to do with providing a more comfortable sleeping experience. It's usually 2 772s to LAX and 1 772 to MIA.

Seems strange to me. I've never flown this route before, but I do remember reading quite a bit about how it's often flown by a 777. At least a couple years back.

I reviewed this recently having booked recently, there are 3.
1 777-200 and 2 767-300s.
The 777 leaves in the morning. Recently there were 2 777s but I see that one has been replaced by a 767.
This route should be a big revenue earner for AA since flagship check in is available for F if going on the 777. Also there is AC access as per the transcon rules similar to jfk-lax or jfk-sfo.
F on this route usually has better food and you would get Bose headsets and a Samsung Galaxy if traveling on a 737, 757 or 767.

Thanks for the responses. Anyone have any experience with overnight flights on a 777 or 767? Does that ever happen? Seems like the answer is no.

The only virtual guarantees are the morning MIA-LAX and one of the afternoon MIA-LAX (~5p) always have a widebody. The rest move around a lot. There was a point recently where there were 2 777s and 3 763s on the route.

I'm confused. I'm flying LAX-MIA a few times next month and every flight is on a 738/757. Looking at aa.com, it appears that there is only one 777 flight a day, and like the OP said, it's a morning flight. Flightaware also confirms that the night flights are always operated by a 738/757.
Seems strange to me. I've never flown this route before, but I do remember reading quite a bit about how it's often flown by a 777. At least a couple years back.

Overnight flights are when the wide bodies are most utilized; all European and deep South American flights with the exception of the daytime LHR and EZE flights are flown overnight (with the latter flown overnight in both directions). The only overnight flights which were consistently wide body flights have been 762s on SFO/LAX-JFK.

Multiple World Cup Soccer charters and extra sections is what may be consuming the widebodys for parts of JUN/JULY. Or so I heard.

It allows for a premium experience all the way to/from South America. This is the reason why I'm flying via JFK on my two AA trips to South America this year - so I have a lie flat (or nearly so) on the transcon. The last thing I want, especially on the return, is a two cabin F seat after a long haul overnight flight. I'm in the SF area and getting a 767 on SFO/MIA is far from a certainty, especially when booked far in advance.

It's been seasonal for a couple of years with Mia-lax running one 777and one 763 in summer, more options in winter. Rare to see 5 at any time of year though for an extended period.
