AA platinum challenge vs Citi Exec AA 100k

Hey all, just confirming my understanding here... Is it true that if I got the Citi Exec AA 100k card and fullfilled the obligations to get the 100k points that I would qualify for Platinum status with AA (thus I wouldn't have to pay the $250 for the platinum challenge)? In short, I'd have the platinum status + admiral club admission just by going the Citi card route? Is this correct?

No, the 100k miles are for redemption and don't count towards elite status. If you want platinum elite status you will need to meet the requirements or qualify via a challenge.

AA Platinum Challenge

Those 100K from credit card only allow you to redeem award seats.

That's why we ask :-)

Just signed up for the PLT challenge. Note: after 4/1, the price is $180.

Since this question is specifically about AA, I'll move it to the AA forum where the experts therein can provide further input.

Do be aware that it's cheap because it's only until 2/2015. After July 1 (I think?) It's historically been $240 but lasts until 2/2016.

As this exact topic was already broached in thread by the same user, we'll actually go ahead and close this dupe. Please see the existing discussion here:
