[complimentary] Upgrade from J to F on A321 [for EXP?]

I am EXP with AA. If I buy a J class ticket on the LAX-JFK route with the new A321 plane. Do I get Complimentary upgrade from J to F?

No, why would you? You can use miles or SWU.

Straight from aa.com:

500-mile upgrades allow you to upgrade from Economy Class to the next class of service for travel on American Airlines or American Eagle
the key phrase here: "from Economy class" and this is true for all AA elites, not just EXP.

Nope. Need SWU or miles. Learned this myself shortly after becoming EXP first time and after joining FT.

For me upgrading with miles (15k) from J to F on the 762 is like splitting 8s in blackjack- i'll do it every chance i get- for the privacy and space.

Can't imagine the 321B will be different.

As this pertains to the pre-merger American Airlines, it is being moved to that forum.

As noted in the Welcome to the New American Airlines Forum! PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING, questions and information pertaining to the existing AA or US operations should go in those forums as it will be quite some time before the two entities operate as a single airline.

Your understanding is appreciated.

It's been that way since 500-mile "stickers" were introduced.

From what I've been reading, the new F on the A321T is a very nice hard and soft product for a domestic service. Quite comparable to international calibre.

Large corporate customers on the route typically get a bunch of J -> F upgrade certificates for free. Other than that, no.

And some contracts permit J->F upgrades on certain fares and/or within a certain window.

F on the A321 is J on the 777-300ER.

And apparently with less pitch (they probably meant shorter bed), according to a single post on the subject.

Still a solid medium-haul product, though, don't get me wrong.
