When is the last revenue AA 727 flight going to take place?
 

Does anyone know? So far the last flight I can see scheduled is AA 926 from MIA to RDU on 4/30, departing at 7:30pm.

Can anyone confirm this or is there a later flight?

There is a later flight. AA 765, TPA-MIA. 21.19 to 22.15.

If you are interested in the very last B727 revenue flight for AA, there was internal AA announcement on March 1 that the last flight for an AA 727 will be on April 30, in and out of MIA. No flight number was given.

Does anyone know if AA is planning any special ceremonies for the last 727 flight(s) on April 30??? Don't airlines usually give some kind of certificate to passengers on the last flight of a fleet type? Is that TPA to MIA flight that someone mentioned on this thread going to be the "official" last 727 flight on apr 30?

With 38 years of continuous service, the Boeing 727 is our longest-lived fleet type ever. And with 164 727's in operation back in 1991, American has the distinction of having flown the largest fleet of this aircraft in the world. On April 30th, 2002 the 727 will fade into our history books as we operate our final revenue flights with this much-loved aircraft through Miami.

The final international 727 trip will be flight 926 on 30APR from SAL to MIA. This flight will also honor the end of the professional flight engineer position at AA.

The final domestic 727 trips are:

Flight 842/30APR MIA-MSY departing at 1910

Flight 978/30APR MIA-IAH departing at 1920

Flight 942/30APR MIA-TPA departing at 1925

Flight 926/30APR MIA-RDU departing at 1930 (the final 727 flight)

These final four flights are planned to depart from adjoining gates in the B concourse at MIA - making for a true "Kodak moment". There will be a water cannon salute by fire trucks as they taxi out.

Before departure, there will be cake, drinks and balloons in the gate area, as well as hand outs and certificates for customers commemorating their being on the last 727 flight.

As chuck till mentioned, those four are the last 4 departures from MIA. They will all be next to each other. AA 926 is the last departure from MIA and will have the celebration. It will also receive the water-cannon salute in MIA. However.....this is not the actual final revenue 727 flight. Flight 765 TPA-MIA (which is the turn-around of 942 departs TPA at 9:15 arrives MIA at 10:15pm is the FINAL 727 revenue flight. However the celebration on this flight will be low-key. This flight, pax will receive the final flight certificates. The reason 926 MIA-RDU is receiving all the attention is for the media, and it will also be daylight out in MIA at this time, versus later when the TPA flight arrives. So, take your choice in which you want it to be.

Sorry, the F-100's & MD-80's aren't going anywhere for a long, long time guys. Don't get your hopes up.

Recently read that Ariana Afghan Airlines will double their fleet size when they receive delivery next week of one of AA's tri-jets.

Seems like all the domestic airlines are dumping their 72 fleets. Most of them go to charter's or foreign carriers.

Always enjoyed a great, safe ride on those legendary planes.

According to AMR's 2001 annual report, the F-100 are being depreciated for a useful life expiring in 2010.

Hillrider - Sorry to dissapoint, but the useful life depreciation that you see in the Annual for AA is for the purposes of book accounting only....It has nothing to do with aircraft value, or more importantly how long the company will use these (or any other) craft.....
