Use of travel Vouchers?

I'm sure this is a ignorant question, but is it possible to use American travel vouchers on their partner airlines? I suspect not, but I'm hoping.

Most of them say something to the effect of 'valid only on American Airline/American Eagle flights'. I believe the answer to your question is no. Sorry.

You can use AA's travel vouchers on any OneWorld airline (Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, LanChile, and Qantas)

Really?? Thats Great!!

That is soooo wonderful. We picked up $4000 in awards on our trip to Cabo.

I've tried to use AA Vouchers on BA and was told they were not valid for use on their airline. This was in December of last year.

Hi,
I believe the BA agent may not be updated
on the rules.
My wife just completed a trip including
separately ticketed AA and BA segments
using AA vouchers.

Received a voucher last month for a bump.
The voucher stated "valid on AA or ONEWORLD partners only. All ticketing must be on AA stock".

PStreet1,

Can you tell us what it says on your voucher?

AA VDB vouchers (the ones given for "bumps") can be used on any 1W airline (and *maybe* AS?), but the ticket has to be issued by AA. In the good old times, when AA still had several CTO's, it wasn't too difficult to get the AAgents to look up the rules and issue your tix on BA, QF, EI, what have you... I haven't tried using one of these vouchers since the closure of most CTO's (I haven't been bumped by AA in such a long time http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ...), but, given my post-911 ticketing experiences at the airport (HNL), I'd just as soon try to ticket my itinerary over the phone and send the travel voucher to AA ticketing (certified mail or Fedex, of course). They will know how to process it.

If this helps, I have 2 at this time from Voluntary Denied Boarding compensation and they both say.

"Travel on American Airlines/American Eagle/One World Carriers only. Restrictions apply. AA must ticket" ** Void if transferred/sold/purchased/bartered **

Valid for 1 year from date of issue

Hope this helps

Just goes to show: reading does pay. : )
It says "travel on American airlines/American Eagle/One world carriers only. Restrictions apply. AA must ticket." I think that means some pretty exotic destinations have just gotten free. I'm happy. Thanks to all who responded.

The cert. haven't said that but when I use it with AA, the agent said if it is trans-ocean, AA must be the Trans-ocean carrier.
e.g. to go jfk-hkg, you cannot use it for CX's JFK-HKG but AA's through fare with AA JFK-NRT and CX NRT-HKG.

Do know it is true or just the agent I talked to.

it is still better than those old bump vouchers that you cannot use it with a through fare with another carrier.
