Does everyone really love Raymond?
 

Let me first give kudos to AA for giving more hours of entertainment on some of the longer flights. On most of my recent 737 flights the IFE starts very shortly after takeoff and continues to moments before we land.

The only issue I have is that to accomplish this they have added a marathon of "Everyone Loves Raymond" to the end of the CBS Eye on American program.

With all the shows in CBS is there a reason they would choose this one? This Raymond guy seems like one of the chronic complainers on the CO board. Is it just me that thinks AA should revisit their choice?

Yes, everyone loves Raymond! Everytime I'm on a flight that show the show, I laugh so hard and so does everyone!

I respectfully disagree... if we HAVE to be tied in to CBS programming (and since UA has NBC locked up, I guess we do), then give me Survivor or something.

I guess I don't really relate to Raymond or The King of Queens.

I'm more of a Sex and the City or Will and Grace kinda girl.

As far as Sex in the City (not my kind of show) but I do like Will and Grace (although I think Jack makes the show).

i cant say that i love raymond. i think his wife is hot. i find his brother to be a freak of nature. his dad i like, but dont love. his mom, well, i keep expecting her to call him 'george.' i actually sort of dislike raymond, he snivels.

i would much prefer a star trek episode as well. or some classic films. it seems they have a lot of chick flicks on planes. (yeah, thats sexist, but im just describing the demographic the studios target) i guess disaster flicks scare pax? maybe a mel brooks flick once in a while..

It is a difficult balancing act for airlines to find programming that is appropriate for all age groups without offending anyone. This has to be done at reasonable cost, ie. a minimum of royalties for repeats, precluding most movies and programs that could otherwise be sold or rented at your local video store (Sex In The City, for example). My son has often asked why The Simpsons can't be shown. Other than AA's deal with CBS, this is the type of program that would offend some and would be costly, as it is widely syndicated and available for sale/rental in video stores. Shows like Raymond - usually not current episodes - are available at reasonable cost and are neutral enough for all viewers. I think the show is funny but find Ray Romano humor a bit annoying with his deep voice and self-seeking ego. Other characters are good however.

But instead, bring back Seinfeld! He had some good episodes involving the joys of flying. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I actually started watching Raymond because of seeing it on AA flights. It was a show that I never thought about watching until I ran out of reading material on a flight and happen to watch.

Does AA really pay anything for CBS programs?

I find that hard to believe since there are so many plugs for CBS.

After over a year of I love Lucy reruns, I am going to love anything different. . .including Raymond.

I think Raymond is pretty funny. The people around me laugh too. AA have to select programs that everybody can watch. I like Star Trek too but not everybody likes it. I also watch Survivor but being a reality show I wouldn't watch old seasons I, II, III that I already saw.

Well, er, no. I only watch it when on AA. Given my druthers, I'd love to see Sex & the City, Will & Grace, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Bewitched or I Love Lucy.

Strangely, my wife and I were just talking about that last night. The only time we watch or have watched that sitcom is when we are on AA metal.

You can't please everybody though including us.

Am I the only one who hates having the TV screen hovering overhead with inane TV shows playing all the time? Yeah, I can ignore it by not putting on headphones, but I find it really disturbing to be trapped in a plane for several hours, strapped in, with the flickering TV always in my eye. Even if I'm talking to the person next to me, I always find we are both constantly glancing at the TV by reflex.

With the everpresent TVs in airport boarding lounges, and TV just about everywhere in modern life, it would be nice to have a respite in the air.

And to answer the question: I can't stand Raymond.

Too true. I actually like Raymond, but
would at times prefer other choices, too.

Why can't AA just install DirectTV...eh oh,
