A month in the life of an MD-80
This is an actual month (January 2002) in the life of N554AA, an MD-82 for American Airlines.

What is the source of the schedule? It is interesting to see the level of utilization.

Real neat. Thanks for posting.
It's easy to see why when a segment early in the day is late thousand of people are inconvenienced. It's also interesting to see how coordinating schedules and maintenance is so complex: the plane is flying empty (on a ferry flight) from ORD to MEX, probably to swap it with a similar MD-80 in need of scheduled maintenance. Not a cheap thing to do! [This message has been edited by hillrider (edited 03-14-2002).] |
I will study later, looks interesting, but thanks to 747 and I am dying for another trip report from him!! Please. If you haven't read his trip reports, you should.
I still think about them. Namaste ------------------ Michael AA PLT,1 MLN Miles+ Hilton Gold Sheraton Gold Marriot Silver LE PRESIDENT ETERNEL DE CAMAIR-CAMEROUN AIRLINES :) |
I did not fly on this MD-80 in the month of January.
*whew* |
I always wondered where one could get info like this... It amazes me how a plane would leave DFW to pick me up (and 200 other people) in Frankfurt, turn right back and fly 10 hours to DFW, rest for 2, fly to Rio with a stop in Miami, fly back the following day...
I would love to see a log like that for a bigger plane with international destinations (according to American, Mexico is domestic) |

Is there any site that we could go to get this information??
Or, maybe someone who has access could pull and post a 777 to see what a typical month is like for one of those... |
Thanks for this really interesting post!

Very interesting post... Thanks!
Out of curiousity, does AA fly its MD-80's to any countries besides USA, Canada, and Mexico? |
