Read Playboy on the plane?

I am not a prude, but I know that I would be very uncomfortable if I was sitting next to someone reading playboy or playgirl or..whatever.
If you were sitting next to a friend and no one else knew what you were reading, then I do not see a problem with it.

Pointsgirl,
I agree with you. Sometimes being discreet is impossible on a full airplane and although the choice of reading material is completely up to the individual, if someone else has to look at it, then that invades the other people. My job is all about "the greater good" of the flight. And sometimes keeping the peace between 150+ total strangers in a confined space can be, shall we say,"challenging"? Everyone has their own rights, but if you're surrounded by tons of other people, consideration for the greater good has to be the way to go on this one, I'm afraid.
I often will express a personal opinion here, and what I think often is not in line with policy. If I know policy or procedure, I'll tell you what it is, and I'll quote it. That doesn't mean I necessarily agree with it. We just hate being put in the middle of 2 passengers who won't confront each other about their own issues and we're called in to resolve it. In the end, both passengers get mad at us, and we're stuck with trying to smooth things over. It's a real tightrope walk...

This is one of the more entertaining threads I have read...

Playboy is pretty tame...Jimmy Carter once confessed in Playboy to aldutery "in his heart"...as long as people are somewhat discrete, it should be allowed...although I wouldn't support displaying the pictures to a minor...

As for the MHC, one of the "attractions" about it are the logistical contraints/challenges.

I had no idea this topic would generate that much interest! At any rate, my main issue was that I was told before takeoff, with the magazine still closed, stacked in between Motor Trend and Money magazine, that I would not be allowed to read it on the plane.

Of course, I would not sit there with pictures wide open so no one could ignore, but there are indeed many pages with just words on them.

I am not writing a sending a letter in a huff, seeking compensation for some perceived inequity, (which seems to be a popular activity...) but just looking for opinions and wondering if anyone was told something similar. To date, it appears no one has.

I will fly from MIA-BOS on 21DEC, I will bring the magazine again, just to see if someone says anything. MiAAmistew, any chance of you working that day??

Best regards to all,
Scott

Miaflyer,
Yesindeedy! I'm flying, but I'm going the opposite direction! Sorry, but I don't often fly domestic stuff. You're on your own with your fine publication, and I wish you the best of luck! Keep us posted on the outcome...

A colleague of mine was a WN FF back when they started. He told me that Playboy WAS the inflight magazine at that time.

Puts it all into perspective for me. Times have definitely changed. I must have missed the news that night...when did Queen Victoria regain the throne?

The Europeans must be laughing their arses off at us. Or did they ever stop?

In essence, don't do anything on the plane that you wouldn't do in view of your boss.

By using your sentiment above, I guess I can get away with anything on a plane. I've drank with my boss at work (they supply beer every Friday), been to Gentlemen's clubs etc...

We just had our Company Holiday party, one thing we look forward to is the owner of the company (my boss) doing his famous BJ shot. The shot glass is on the floor, he does the splits to pick up the shot glass in his mouth and then somersaults without spilling a drop. Very impressive.

Thanks for the permission

MiaStew,
Thanks for the insight - I always wondered about the "staging" of entering (bad pun) the MHC. Very tiny rooms.
One day maybe.
Still if the desire is there. It's good to have goals.

Okay, okay, I revise my "boss" comments: don't do anything that you would not do in a normal, professional, business setting.

BTW, the shot glass trick DOES sound impressive! ;-)

MIAAmiStew,

I need to find out what flight you work. Those seem a lot more fun than the flights I've been on.
