Four TWA Paint Jobs at Lambert

Over Thanksgiving weekend, I flew TWA and visited Lambert for the first time in 15 years.

I noted four paint jobs on TWA aircraft in St. Louis:

. The old look of the 1980s-90s.
. The newer "golden map" look.
. The recent TWA logo on the tail and the American Airlines stripes on the body.
. The TWE variaton on Trans World Express planes.

Are there other paint jobs still flying on TWA aircraft?

When I was at Lambert last week, early morning, I saw about a dozen of the new TWA/AA paint jobs. The FA said they will all look like that in about a month. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't see how they can get them all done so quick.

Growing up in St Louis it sure will be strange to see lambert without any twa aircraft flying overhead, but I guess that day is rapidly approaching.

I would guess that the reduced flight schedules makes it 1) a heck of a lot easier to rotate the aircraft out of service for paint jobs, and 2) the reduced maintenance from less flight hours on each plane means more hanger time/space and maintenance crews time available for painting and such. Plus AA should want to take advantage of TWA's young fleet by making sure it isn't looking old with the old colors, the paint job makes them look that much newer.

Where'd you go to high school? (inside joke, the classic St. Louis question. Akin to asking "What exit" in New Jersey, etc.)

According to the TW (soon to be AA) people in STL, they are attempting to scrape 3 MD-80's, 1 757 and 1 717 a week. There are few changes to the interior, although there is a bit of a tidying up, made to some of the cosmetic features (twin globe stantions are replced with plain grey) on the inside of the planes - but still not quite up to AA standards.

How much does it cost to redo one aircraft?
