SFO was shut down for a period on 6 Jul 2013; the airport has been reopened with restricted operations as Runway 28L, normally used for most approaches to SFO, has been shut down for the NTSB investigation. Please check your flights for disruptions (delayed / cancelled departures, arrivals diverted to other airports, etc.) Expect significant delays at the least for ~a day or two.

I'm siting in the AC in LGA. Was supposed to fly LGO ORD SFO tonight but caught news of the crash as we were waiting to board our first leg & was able to get on the phone & rebook into SJC before everything filled up.

Godspeed to the Asiana folks, the pictures are pretty scary.

I would think that the aprons at OAK and SJC would become very crowded in a big hurry with SFO completely closed and plenty of inbound planes already in the air.

Right, I would expect delays at both and a possible shortage of gates
Hopefully the Fed govt would send some immigration people to SJC/OAK to assist

I'd hope that CBP and TSA would be putting most of their SFO staff on busses and driving them to those alternate airports to assist. There's nothing for them to do at SFO right now.

SFO is not TSA.

I'd add LAX to the list. I'd imagine most TPAC flights (and possibly others, especially long hauls) will be diverted there.

Yes, I realize that. Pretend I typed "contract screeners who work at SFO and do the same function as TSA screeners at most other airports" if that helps.

a.net reporting a decent number of widebody diversions to SEA. Seems like they want to get people on the ground first and figure it out later.

FWAAA as usual you are correct. I called an agent I worked with at SJC. There is hardly a spare piece of real estate without a diversion chocked on it. Several dozen is his guess.

At least one AF flight did divert to SEA. I wouldn't be shocked to see some domestic flights diverted to SMF & RNO.

Was on AA 85 today in F. Currently waiting for B6 669 to SJC without a seat assignment. I do have things in perspective though.

I'm a bit rattled and keep forgetting things that I set down.
