LHR-JNB upgrade on BA?
I'm tryhing to go to South Africa this January with my wife to get to Kruger NP. I figure a coach fare upgraded with VIPOW's should be a snap from the US to London. I'm willing to pay a coach ticket on BA from LHR to Joburg, but I don't see an upgrade award in the booklet. Anyone with any thoughts?

You'd have to purchase a full-Y fare on BA, and then you could use BA miles to upgrade it rt.

Thanks, 2ManyMiles, for your reply. Your suggestion is one that I am going to have to face up to, but, since I don't have any BA miles, I may have to cough up big for a J-fare on this route. Don't want to fly Y on a 5,000 mi leg. Alternatively, I could pull out 80K AA miles for each ticket. Will have to think deep thoughts on this.

Have AA stopped codesharing with South African? That would be more onvenient/cheaper surely?

If you have a diners, consider transfering from there to BA -- you can still get the double miles bonus if you do it now.
Alternatively, as much as I hate to say it, consider DL. They code-share with SAA from N. America, and u can use their miles to upgrade on the code-share.
