American Airlines Offers 'The World for Less' With Late Summer and Fall Fare Sale

I just ran into this article on Yahoo! News regarding AA's announcement...here is an excerpt from the article followed by the link to the entire article:

The savings get even bigger on AA.com. Travelers booking these sale fares on AA.com will enjoy additional savings of up to 10 percent and will receive up to 5,000 bonus AAdvantage miles. AA.com is offering a bonus of 5,000 miles for first-time bookings and 2,500 miles for repeat bookings. To qualify, bookings must be made by Aug. 6, 2001, and ticketing is required at the time the reservation is made. Travel must be on American Airlines or American Eagle and must be completed by Dec. 13, 2001, for international destinations, and by Dec. 16, 2001, for all other destinations. Visit AA.com for complete details.

...Did I hear "Mileage Run" from any of you out there...for the additional 2,500 miles plus the great US-Europe fares, it is going to make my decision more irresistible.

I'm always up to go to Europe, but I hope we get something better than DFW-LGW for $498 plus tax.

For some reason, pricing a STL-SJC-TPE R/T in November came back more expensive than it had before...is there some kind of promotion code that needs to be entered for the sale and the AA.com 10% off deal to be valid?

Domestically, since the sale includes TW, it might be a good chance to pick up a bunch of miles on TW on the cheap, especially if one is at least Elite w/ TW. Something like ORD-STL-MCI and return would mean 4000 miles (min 1000 miles per segment) which will count towards AA qualifying. Plus, if one upgrades for free as a TW Elite 1 or Plat, it would mean 6000 Q-points, unless the system changes. Not a bad deal if there are some cheap fares around.

One of the things I'll miss the most about the TW program (other than the free upgrades) is the 1000 "Actual Mile" Minimum per flight. Especially when connecting, it adds up quickly.

In case you thought they are too good to be true, they are OW based on RT. Still OK fares.

Those fares are still a bit ridiculous when you compare them with last year's. We flew SAN-ORD-BRU for $429 during Thanksgiving. Then again, one can not use these fares as examples, because surely as they always do, they'll drop like a rock after September 1st! Have to wait for the summer madness to end, and all the college students to go back to school, then the airlines get desperate!
