First flight as a DFW resident!
 

Hello FTs!

Moving to the DFW area has completed, and today's DFW-BLD will be my very first trip from DFW.
First, I drove around to find theparkingspot, unfortunately, i just couldn't find the darn thing, fear running outta time, I finally parked at ParkNfly.

I have to say that the design of DFW is not bad at all, after I checked in, the gate is right there, unlike IAH where I had to walk miles to get to the gate.

In-flight service was nice, they even served hot pizza?? CO never serves hot pizzas. We were on-time at BDL, it is cold here!

Welcome to the Metroplex. Have you picked where you're going to live yet? The last time I flew the DFW-BDL non-stop was in 98 and I got a Uno personal pizza for dinner. Is it still the same brand? I'm so tired of people complaining about DFW. It's a fantastic place for area residents since it takes but a few steps to go from the curb to check-in to the gate. Isn't the Parking spot North across from the Sheraton? If I use an outside parking vendor I usually park at Fast Park outside the South gate. Great service, only $5 a day and never crowded. It's also easy to access from 161 and 183.

Thank you, I am staying at the Residence Inn in downtown Hartford, very new just opened in Spring of 2000.

It was pizza, although I am not sure if it is Uno or not, but it was good since I haven't been eating since 8am!

I will try to find the ParkingSpot again, ParkNfly isn't too bad, it i has covererd parking and I have been parking with them when I was in Houston http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Wellcome to DFW. What aircraft and seating class did you have. Did you try for Upgrade? Sure I will see you in DFW sometime. I have my Itin posted for both FEB and some for MAR.

On the North side, the parkingspot is just off Estes on 114. You need to come in on a back road--when you exit south on Estes off 114, turn right (at the dead end) and the parkingspot will be on your right past the construction. $7 covered is a mighty nice deal.

Welcome to the Metroplex, as we call the area around Dallas-Ft. Worth. Did you have "fun" driving through the traffic the other day? It really isn't as bad as Houston traffic IMHO.

Regards parking - my company pays for "close-in" garage parking at $12/day. Not too bad of a rate. Will your company let you expense that much? If so, go for the garage parking! In any case you must know how "hot" the summer sun is in Dallas and you will want to park in a "covered" place when Summer comes. If not you will literally burn the paint off of your car.

Yes, DFW is designed very nicely for DFW residents, but it is horrible for transiting pax for sure. You are in Hartford, I am in SFO this week. I KNOW I have the better of it, I wouldn't trade you at all. But next week I get the cold because I go to CLE and then ORD - brrrr.

I agree; I don't think the traffic is as bad as Houston's, even though the Metroplex is a bigger metro area.

I don't know if my company will let me park in terminal Garages, will have to ask, I doubt they will let me http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Also I agree with you that DFW is a terriable place for transit passangers, because i was a three time vicitim of that last year! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Missed all my three connections!

First rule of Business is:

"Ask forgiveness, don't ask permission."

If your Manager doesn't know how much it costs to park at DFW then "eat" this trip's parking charge and NEXT TIME park in the garage @ $12/day and just turn it in. If they ask you about the "cost" just say "that's what they charge at DFW" or maybe "DFW is more expensive than Houston".

If you don't want to "eat" this trips parking charge then "hide the hat" - which is another Business Expense saying.

I know exactly what you mean DAAvid. I ate quiet a few Parking fees myself before.

On the next trip, I'll try to park at the terminal and see what happens.

My favorite place to park inside DFW are the infield parking lots in each terminal. You save $3 a day, are rarely crowded, and are just a short walk to the terminal. Of course it's not covered (except for some of the 3E/C lot) but it's worth the savings for me. The problem of course with either of these methods is that there's a great possiblity that you will arrive at a different AA terminal than you leave from which mandates a painfully slow train trip. Does anyone know when the new train/peoplemover will be up and running?

Applefan it my duty to inform you that the new people mover is not scheduled to be operational untill 2005!
