ORD-PDX is back

American is resuming service between Chicago and Portland, Oregon. Twice daily 738 service resumes on 12 June 2013 and it should be bookable within the next six hours or so.

Thank goodness. It was almost impossible to find award seats DFW-PDX, even months in advance. Hoping this may help, as I love visiting PDX.

I think in the coming months we will be seeing more west coast-ORD announcements. Which might be a harbinger as to what the new airline's presence at PHX will be.

Wow. I got excited about this but that is a nearly useless schedule at least for me. 3:50 p.m. is the last flight form ORD? Not even a Chicago-based traveler could get anything close to a full day of work nevermind anyone connecting from elsewhere.

Nice to see but my PDX flights will still likely remain AA/AS via SEA and SFO.

Nice to see some growth out of Chicago. Would have like to have seen a 1800 or 1900 westbound departure though.

I agree, you'd think they'd set the route up for more success with the reinstatement. IDK what UA's schedule is, maybe it has something to do with what their timing on this route is.

Either way, it's great to see some west coast expansion from Chicago O'Hare. Now here's hoping for a SMF direct route some time soon! If they ever had that route from O'Hare, it pre-dated my regular travel there, which now is usually through LAX.

Could crew rest and getting a early enough departure out of PDX to make connecting flights at ORD be the reason for the schedule configuration? I imagine they are using ORD based crews.

Finally, having moved from AUS to PDX, I was shocked that the only place you could fly from PDX was to DFW. Not exactly convenient for an east coast trip. Truly happy. Hopefully once the AA/US merger complete, AA should be an even more attractive option from PDX....

That is fantastic news! Much better food choices at ORD during layovers. But I had to check the date of the thread...I know you meant 2013 but I was confused for a sec.

As an EXP based in PDX i'm happy about this. AS has flights on this route, but it's not a codeshare.

If AA's going more up against AS perhaps they'll start PDX-LAX, which i just flew on a codeshare this morning.

Glad to see that it's back and it's no longer an MD-80...I flew it in 2006 and 1,739 miles on a S80 was a bit much!
