AA PLT isn't bad. Not nearly as nice as EXP, but still not bad.
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately after some more research on AA website it appears that upgrades and awards to SIN are complete garbage / nonexistent.

Am I reading the chart right on AA for seat upgrades you have to shell out $700 and 50,000 miles for a seat upgrade on a r/t from DFW-NRT ? 30,000 miles and $150 for a r/t inside the US? really? thats complete garbage if true.

DFW is a hub for them and I know I see flights to SIN for about the same price as United so I am not sure why I am having difficulty looking at awards on that route.

You are reading the chart correctly. It is what it is. Miles+copay isn't the best value, IMO.

But if I'm not mistaken, UA charges 30K miles + $600 for an upgrade award from N. America to South Asia one way on deep discounted coach? If I'm reading that correctly, I don't see how AA's upgrade award pricing is worse.

Lost

I am so sorry to ask this question in this forum.. I am lost I am not sure how to use this page. I heard about this page flyer talk on the Today show. I am looking for a plane ticket or buddy pass and I thought this page could guide me. My husband is returning from Afghanistan and I am looking for a less expensive flight for him from Dallas to Ontario California leaving Oct 17th returning the 21st .. would I be able to find something like that here?

Again sorry if this question is not acceptable

Welcome to FT.
No need to apologize, this is a newbie lounge.
According to ita, see link below

DL and US are showing $346 and $404 for RT ai, albeit AA fares are much higher.
Good luck!

True, I have never redeemed via that method so I had to look it up and it would appear that as bad as AA upgrade sucks, UA sucks more.

I usually spend the 60k on a economy ticket or 120k on a first ticket. R/T. I dont see something similar available on AA. With the 100% miles bonus I would be very tempted if they had something to SIN.

AA does have something similar, but not as good as UA it appears

North America to Asia2 1-way will cost 37,500/62,500/72,500 in Coach/Business/Economy

Two Questions:

1) My Plantinum status runs out in Feb 2014. if I book the flight before this date in say March or April, do I still have platinum benefits for that flight?

2) How do I hold a reservation when I want to purchase something with miles?

Technically, you do not. It's your status when you fly that matters, not when you book. In practice, things like elite-choice seats do tend to stick if there's no equipment change. You won't get free checked bags or bonus miles, though

2) How do I hold a reservation when I want to purchase something with miles?

If this is an award on AA, you can construct it just as you would a paid ticket (after clicking the box indicating that you want to use miles). At the end, you should be given a Hold option toward the bottom of the screen, just as a paid reservation.
Cheers.

1) I am booking a flight on my account, and my girlfriend is booking on hers. I have platinum and she doesn't. Is there a way to match itineraries so that she gets my platinum benefit? Free check bag + security line express?

2) What time during the year does your status go away? lets say I dont make any status for 2013, when does my status from the year before run out at?

Quick question: I am trying to get from Boston to Athens, Greece. Best route looks via LHR on BA.

If I use AA miles for the award booking, do I still have to pay the exorbitant BA fees?

Any other suggestions if so?

Thx

1. Book them as one reservation.
2. March 2014. Last day of benefits is February 28, 2014.

Yes. You can see the fees for any given routing by doing a dummy booking at aa.com.

Avoid BA, at least over the pond, and your fees will be much less. For example, BOS-JFK-LHR (AA) then LHR-ATH (BA) will be much easier on the wallet than BOS-LHR-ATH all on BA.

Yes, you are (properly) being charged more because you are routing via the Pacific. However, if you had been able to include even one flight on JL to your routing, you could have qualified for a distance-based "Explorer" award, and paid only 100,000 AA miles. Example: Bom-hkg-sfo-hnd-hkg-bom
