More Room Throughout Coach
 

According to our eternal enemy aa.com, AA are 43% done on the removal of seats.

I don't fly regularly over here, so are there any tell tale signs that I can look for to see if my SJC -> SEA flight in a weeks time has the new larger pitch? I'm sure a lot of you could just tell by sitting in it or even looking at it but I've only ever been on one AA flight http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If you've flown economy on any North American carrier in the last several years, you'll probably notice right away. I recently checked out an MD-80 (I had been upgraded to first) and found that the econo seats had almost as much leg room as the first class cabin, and the exit rows had even more room. They are still very narrow and crowded if you have someone sitting next to you, however.

You can tell which place have been done when you board. Look for a "More Room in Coach" plaque on the forward bulkhead (the wall between the passengers and the cockpit.)

...but according to American's reservationists, there is no way to tell in advance. They constantly shift aircraft assignments, often just a few hours before, to acccount for delays and other problems.

I've not yet seen one of the new "more room" planes. I keep hoping!

I'd agree with Ken. One other note is that the economy bulkhead seats have lots of room. I wouldn't dread sitting in those seats on a long flight.

One question, does the last row of a M-80 end with row 6 (and start with 3 or 4) in first?

p.s. flew on a M-80 (N241AA) and didn't note the presence of the "more room" plaque.

I just flew in a MD-80 that had been converted. I used my gold status to get an exit row seat. Now I have to send a complaint letter to AA telling them that when you are properly belted, it is very difficult to reach the seatback pocket in front of you ;-)

In all seriousness, the difference is rather remarkable. Once all the planes are converted, it won't make a flight unbearable if you don't get one of the exit or bulkhead seats.
