american airlines first vs business

I am planning on taking a trip from the east to the west coast some point down the road. I have enough points for 2 one class upgrades, and don't know if I should fly first on a 757 or business on a three class 767 or dc10. Is first class on a three class 767 worth the extra cost, is the food much better than business? Any advice from executive platinum would be appreciated

Go for the 767. Business class (even in the tight domestic configuration) is superior to 1st on a 757. AA no longer runs DC10's transcon and they're retiring the final 5 in the Hawaii fleet, later this year.

I agree with AAPLAT -- go for the 767. If you have a choice, go for the 767-300 (usually referred to as the 763) -- I find that plane much more comfortable than the 767-200 (or 762).

Just dont take 7D since that seems to be a favorite seat of alot of us (including me).

American has 8 767-200s, 22 767-200ERs and around 45 767-300ERs. The 762-non-er planes have puthetic legroom in C. Those planes are only flown on the transcons. The 762-non-er is the only plane where it's worth it to double-upgrade.

First, find out if the plane is a 762 or 763. To find out whether the -200 is ER or non-ER, look at First Class seats. There are 9 on the -200ERs, and 14 on the non-ERs. Basically, they added a row of F and scrunched C into the smaller space for the non-ERs.

Jimboliguy, if we ever happen to be on the same flight I'll galdly let you have 7D and I'll take 7G.

mjd - another plus on the 767-300 vs 767-200 is 2 bathrooms in Business instead of only 1 (which the bulkhead coach passengers always seem to think is theirs).
