NJ resident trying to buy AA gift card

Hi any one know of a workaround for AA not wanting to sell gift cards to NJ residents. Trying to use my 200 Amex Airline Credit and since its now February it will not let me change my airline.

Thread transferred to AA forum. The method of payment does not change the answer.

If AA is not selling gift cards to NJ residents, I suspect a legal issue rather than one of "not wanting to."

In this article, even AMEX stop selling gift cards.

The issue seems to be NJ doesn't want company's to keep unused funds.
But, I see the airline's POV here. AA sells these cards at a discount. To recoup some of that money, AA is counting on a certain percentage of people not using all of the value from the cards.

Nothing surprises me about New Jersey. Self-serve gas is still prohibited, no?

Here's a workaround: if you have a friend in PA or New York City, change your address. Problem solved.

Actually, that legislation failed after Amex pulled all of their prepaid cards from the state. Every company can now sell gift cards in NJ if they so choose without the risk of forfeiting unused funds to the state.

I actually like full service gas. It's in Oregon too. Yet gas is still less compared to California.

Maybe AA doesn't know this.
It's not like AA doesn't want to sell stuff.

Maybe contacting AA customer relations will get the issue resolved. It'll take time making its way up the chain of command. But a letter can help.
