Road Warrior 2012 - Enter by August 31, 2012

Hi folks, just a friendly reminder that entries to this year's Road Warrior contest are now being accepted through the end of August. The application requires quite a bit less writing than last year and of course winning is good fun.

Here is a link to the application:

Seriously. I can't believe that I have to relinquish my crown so soon!

I was all excited, until I saw it is based on 2011 miles, of which I had 0. Time to push up the remainder of this year in preparation for next year .

Nope. Although the rules do not specifically state it, the editors have said in person that previous winners and runners-up cannot win again. It's all downhill from here.

They should at least give you a nice country estate or tropical island somewhere to live in exile, perhaps with a few vassals.

I was told that I can't be mentioned in an American Way article and enter the Road Warrior contest, so I'm not entering this year.

Who told you that? I wouldn't think that would disqualify you.

Has anyone been notified that they're a finalist yet? I believe notifications start today...

Last year's rules stated that finalists would be notified on or around September 22 but I wasn't actually notified until September 29, so it could still be a week or more before the winners are notified.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the heads up. Not that I expect a call... but just wondering...

Just FYI folks, they're starting to make their calls. I'm thinking most of the essays were written in Swahili or something because I got a call yesterday...

BTW, Neal, apparently we went to college together for three years. Just saw a reference to "Big Red" in your thread from last year. Can't say I recognize you, but glad to see Big Red making an appearance at least two years in a row (maybe even before that?).

Congrats! You are going to have a ton of fun with the Road Warrior stuff!

Send me a PM or FB request so I can see if I know you.
