Memphis to Delhi / DEL via AA

Hi All,

I have 90k miles on American. When I tried booking round trip from Memphis to Delhi, they are charging me fees/tax of nearly $600 + 90k miles for this trip. I think reason being high taxes/fees on British Airways flight in between.

Also I don't have complete 90k miles (nearly 70K) but I plan to buy rest of them which will be nearly $462.

Anyway around the fees/taxes?

Thanks so much for your help.

Memphis to Delhi via AA

No way if you are routing thru London and flying British air what I had done in the past is fly Memphis to Singapore on AA for 60 or 70k and then fly to Delhi I think you can get a round trip for 300 to 400 range

Just to add. I can go to Chicago/Atlanta and fly from there too.

Thanks for your reply gotofly. How did you go from singapore to Delhi? what airline did you use?

Added later: Just checked on AA. They do not offer any airlines to Singapore with miles. Did I miss something?

You need to call AA. Only limited parter award availability is visible on aa.com, including BA and Qantas.

You should look at this page for all your options also.

You'll need to call AA to discuss options (e.g., Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, etc.) for which award seats cannot be booked via aa.com.

When you call AA, look into award availability on Finnair (through HEL) and Jet Airways (through BRU) to avoid BA fees.

Wouldn't using Iberia thru Spain work too?

IB doesn't fly to India.

Ever since BA started charging this outrageous "fuel surcharge tax", i have looked into other options for travel to India. The best one IMO is Etihad through Chicago and Abu Dhabi. Total out of pocket usually runs less than $100 + Miles.

Other options if Delhi is your final destination

1. Jet Airways from NY area, but award availability on 9W is sparse
2. Finnair from Chicago

Going via Pacific on CX will cost extra 20K miles.

Cheers/

The AA partners that serve DEL:
MH (becomes member of oneworld before 1/1/2013), GF, RJ, BA, CX, 9W, EY, JL, AY.

I can strongly recommend Jet Airways. Flew them to Bombay via Brussels in Y in January. Brussels airport is a disaster but it is what it is.

Just to give you guys an update. Booked aa flight with etihad using miles. Taxes for two adults came out to be $110 and for infant ticket charge was around $320. This includes $25 telephone booking fees. Used points.com to buy additional miles and traded in United miles.
