The rebate program (which began in April 2012) applies only to primary card holders of these cards:
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard
  • Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard
  • Citi Select AAdvantage American Express
It does not apply to the Citi Gold World MasterCard, Citi Executive products, or some of the Citi Business cards.

The maximum rebate for any cardholder in a single calendar year is 10,000 miles per AAdvantage account. Having more than one qualifying Citi AA card will not allow you to receive a larger rebate.

Thanks. I suspected we wouldn't be so lucky.

Did you see the miles revoked in your "Mileage activity" on your AA account?

10% Rebate for Cardholders

Hey all, I was planning on redeeming a saver award for 62.5K in first from NRT-SAN. I only have 59K in my account, but I know citi AAdvantage cardholders get the 10% bonus. Do I need to have the entire amount in my account before this rebate happens, or is there any way I can call and they can take care of this?

Thanks alot.

As your thread title indicates, it is a 10% rebate. You have to have the full 62.5k in order to redeem. Within a few days/weeks of redeeming, they will deposit 6,250 miles into your account. However, you likely cannot get this in advance.

aaa I see. hmm. Seeing that AA miles are much harder to manufacture I may have to buy some miles or hope that availability is still there when I put my rent on my card next month.

thanks for the info!

It looks like AA American Express and MC Gold do not have the 10% benefit. Is that correct?

I should know the answer to this, booking 2 HEL-OMA J 50k's in around a week - July travel; plan on taking 50k from my account and 50k from Mrs. As long as I put the transaction charges on the Citi card for both will I get 10k back (Mrs uses Starwood AX)? AA said they would probably put me on Finnair or AB to ORD but from what I understand that doesn't make any difference for the 10% miles back.

Tell you guys I'm kind of liking this program, for the last 10 years between the two of us we have received between 40/75k every year in bonuses. Sure makes coming up with 200/225k each summer a lot easier.

You don't need to put the charge on Citi AA Card. You could use any card from any other bank. The only requirement is that redemption occurs from AAdvantage account which is linked to your card which has 10% benefit.

Cheers!

Thank you, so I need to take both 50K award seats out of my account not 50k from mine and 50k hers; we currently do not have an Citi AA card in her name. If I wouldn't have asked I would have messed up and lost 5k miles.

Correct! You must have miles taken out of the account which is linked to the credit card, in this case, your AAdvantage account. Save miles in her account to redeeem when she gets her own credit card and it is linked to her aadvantage account.

Cheers!
