Codeshare Seat Assignment/Upgrade Questions

In my experience, codeshare flights are usually messy and difficult to deal with. Having booked a few with *A, I ended up not being able to get seat assignments until online check in.

For AA/OW:

1. Do seat assignments stick?
For example, if I booked an AA coded flight operated by AS, will I be able to change/select my seat by calling AS directly? With United and Air Canada, the answer is no. I had booked UA coded AC operated flights before and AC was not able to assign any seats (even if the agents tried, they wouldn't stick) whatsoever. Is this the case with AA/AS?

2. Are elites only eligible to request an upgrade on the day of travel?
In the reversed situation, if I booked an AS (or other airlines) coded flight operated by AA, will I only be able to request EXP upgrades at the airport on the day of travel? Or will I be able to request upgrade ahead of time and clear upgrades during my regular EXP window?

Thanks in advance.

1. In my experience, the seat assignment sticks. Just get the locator # on the operating airline. Then go to the airline website and pull up the seat map and pick your seats.
2. I am not aware that upgrade is a benefit on AS for AA Elite.

Nope what?

On more than one occasion, I'd seen people booked on codeshare flights at the airport/AC requested to be added to the upgrade list. AAgents obliged and subsequently bumped me out of number 1 because they were connecting elsewhere

So I know, day of is possible, but in advance?

Maybe I'll book a ticket and see what if I'm able to request an upgrade since AS has the 24 hr cancellation policy.
