AA to launch daily Miami (MIA) - Barcelona (BCN), Spain

American Airlines will launch daily service between Miami and Barcelona, Spain. This is a switch of metal as part of the AA-IB-BA JBA, as the flight will replace the current 3x weekly service operated by Iberia.

It will start as 5x weekly on 4 April 2012 before going daily on 14 June 2012. Not bookable yet, should be this weekend.

Good news! Now if we can only get a non-stop AUS-MIA to take advantage of this.

My sincere hope is that AA is able to drive down its operating expenses and that it can improve its onboard service (hard and soft) enough to greatly expand its AA metal flying within the JBA.

The 777-323s, with their already announced direct aisle access fully flat biz seats and AA's version of E+, are a step in the right direction and might replace some BA 747s (AA has already said that LHR will be the first destination served by the new planes).

Almost certainly a 763.

But this will probably be a 757, right? I guess it is to serve the latin american taste to visit europe (and maybe vice-versa?)

BOS-MIA-BCN is 5955 miles, well over the MPM of 4442 for the cheapest BOS-BCN fares on AA.

Still, nice to see new international service hopefully much more to come (JFK-AMS?)

A 757 would require a fuel stop in the Azores both ways, so that's unlikely.

This is great news! BCN is my major AA destination, and those JFK-BCN flights seem to always be packed.

Last year there was a seasonal second daily JFK-BCN flight. Is this one replacing it, or in addition to?

Awesome. LHR is way overserved by AA. It's so nice to see other destinations accessibility increased on AA metal.

Awesome, nice to see a frequency increase at MIA. Hopefully an ORD cut will follow!

I wish AA would add more destinations rather than more origins.
