50k RT in J for JAL SFO-HND is a very great deal. ^

In contrast to JL's YVR-NRT which is on a 767, SFO-HND is on a 777 so the J seats are much more comfortable. Plus, the flight goes straight to HND so you land in the heart of Tokyo than way out at NRT.

Can't see it spelled out anywhere - is this valid only for SFO-HND but not for connecting flights (for example LAX-SFO-HND)?

sensing a theme- discounts on awards that are shorter in distance (like asia from west coast) and from less popular gateways

One data point: an agent told me "no", no connecting flights.

Are there any discount tickets available from SFO to HND for paying cash instead of miles?
If so, I could do a mileage run to Japan ..

Wow! Something form SFO?

JL must not be expected too many redemptions especially if this is SFO-HND only. How many AA'ers are left in the Bay Area?

I'm in the Bay Area and this is extremely temping, even though I really wasn't planning to take a trip so soon. 50k RT in J is just amazing. Will be talking this over with the SO tomorrow, on the assumption there will be any good award dates left around Jan/Feb.

I have to wonder if there is anything in part with Japan's Ministry of Tourism promo of bringing in more tourists to Japan after the triple whammy of a 9.0 Mw earthquake, a horrific tsunami, and a nuclear meltdown. Japan seems to be desperate in seeking tourism funds to help rebuild the region affected by the disaster.

50k in J for both SFO-HND and YVR-NRT is indeed a strange but fantastic deal coming from AA and JAL.

Awesome deal. I fly out DTW but I'll be in Chicago for the conference at the end of the month and am planning a MR to SFO anyway...maybe then add on this trip to Japan? Might be a bit much on short notice haha.
