Were you offered something the first 10 years?

never tried to cancel before. was worth it as miles went toward million miler. Now that is of course gone. This was also our first mile earnings card and did not start the miles game til a year and a half ago so this was our primary cc until recently. Was just hit this month with the fee for the year

That's pretty odd, since I've been reading / hearing about quite a few people being offered some kind of incentive to stay.

I'm going to be canceling a few of mine soon. I have no expectation of them trying to incentivize me to keep them open, but I was assuming they would after reading others' experiences lately.

I guess you offered yourself $80 to close it, ha!

Reading? Here? You mean that there are existing threads about these AA credit cards and about canceling them? Imagine that

Cheers.

Consider yourself blessed. Now you can apply for 2 more AA cards at 75k miles each.

Cancelling what must be one of your older cards should make a good ding on your credit score.

Um, no it wont; the card information will remain on the credit system; only be of impact if mad enough to maintain debts on the card and increase the % debt to available credit

Not accurate. When you close a very old card it immediately sortens your average-age of credit lines, which while not the highest impact factor, definitely can lower your credit for 100% sure.

They do have a zero cost option (with half the mileage earnings). That would at least keep your account active and not ding your credit history. Unless you are looking for a spot to apply for a new card?

Completely accurate. As you say, not a highest impact item, but it will have more of an impact the higher ones credit score.

Cheers.
