Question about domestic AA award tickets using Avios
Hey all,
Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section...
I know that using Avios to purchase AA award tickets gets me Priority Access, but am I also given a checked bag allowance? Or do I have to pay for checked bags?
Thanks in advance

Baggage allowance isn't a function of using Avios, AA miles or paid fare (with exception for the higher fare classes). It's determined by AA (or relevant partner carrier) status, above the standard regional allowance.

Worth noting that if you have an AA credit card with benefits, associating your AA frequent flyer number with a reservation made with Avios will cause those benefits to be honored.

It depends on class of service, not because you booked with Avios. Typically for Y fares, Avios books into AA "T"/MilesAAver fares and they do not get free bags, etc. F/Z fares get all the first class benefits of the operating carrier.
If you are an elite, leave your EC # out of the BA record, add your AA # once you get the AA record locator and you will get all your elite benefits, priority boarding, free bags, and any Citi benefits linked to your AAdvantage number.

We have made several AS award reservations with Avios. After replacing the EC# with my AA#, my elite status shows, AS extends all benefits, expect the same for credit card holders.

YMMV, but here's what my eticket receipt shows for a 15K Avio economy ticket redeemed for my no-status brother:
Checked baggage
Adults and children: 1 bag at 23kg (51lbs)
You may be charged for extra or overweight bags.
There are restrictions on what you may pack and on the dimensions of your bags.
Note: FC tickets get three free bags.

Here's mine booked last week:
Free baggage allowance
Free checked baggage per person
0 bags
In addition to their baggage allowance infants and children, up to age 11, can also take one fully collapsible pushchair (stroller) and one car seat.
There are restrictions on what you may pack and on the dimensions of your bags.
You may be charged for extra or overweight bags.

Doesn't matter what type of ticket you have, it's your elite status that determines your checked luggage entitlement, unless the ticket is in C or F and that COS gets you a better deal (i.e. more free checked bags, more weight). So not sure what the debate on this thread is about?
